The Greene County Regulators host a SASS affiliated Cowboy Action Shooting match the first Saturday of each month and on the fourth Saturday in months with five Saturdays at our range called Bordertown in the Bulls Gap/Rogersville area in Northeast Tennessee. Each match consists of shooting five or more stages that are timed and scored according to SASS rules.

Here's a picture of some typical guns used in a match.

Cowboy Guns

Participants shoot two single action revolvers, a lever or pump action rifle in a pistol caliber, and a shotgun at steel targets.  All ammunition must be lead bullets.  Shotgun rounds must contain number 7 shot or smaller (no “magnum” rounds).  For a five stage match, you will need 50 pistol rounds, 50 rifle rounds and 25+ rounds of shotgun ammo.  All shooters and spectators must wear eye and ear protection during the course of the match.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 9:15. A mandatory safety meeting gets underway around 9:20 and the match starts at 9:30 (or there abouts).  Ideally you should be registered by 9:15 to shoot the match.  There is a ten dollar fee for GCR members, 15 for non-members and if you're a first time SASS shooter there is no charge.

One of the best ways to learn about Cowboy Action Shooting is to attend a monthly match, watch and ask questions! Cowboys and Cowgirls are some of the most helpful and friendly folks you'll ever meet! Click Here to go to Capt. George Baylor's article on how to get started:
